more questions for sgnr.

yes it's been ten thousand years since i've updated this. sorry.
does robb do weddings?
yes. usually it's friends or friends of friends who later become friends
who ask and i love doing their weddings.
are you playing valleyfest this year? any other festivals? wakarusa?
no sadly i am not playing wakarusa, but yes to valleyfest and altus grape festival and a few other.
10.5.08
how did the recording go?
well, it's been a while since i updated and i wanted to say thanks for all of you who harp on me to do this more regualry. i am sorry to disappoint for so long. thankfully you guys did not disappoint with the questions... some of the funniest i have ever had. :P
here we go.. the recording went well it was mainly demos.
tell me about the new album
i got this one about 40 times. it was probably the same old person.
and i could probably guess who it is, but still. i answer!
the new album is called "the unapologist" and it is a monster album. meaning it's bigger than what i'm used to. not so much in format or length, but in stature and depth. it's making me second guess myself in all the ways i've become accustomed to making albums. and i love it!
the songs have a fierocity that reminds me of "the irresponsible years" but with a maturity and hopefully depth that superseeds the aforementioned and goes deeper in to the culture and the relevance of art and the human heart.
then again, maybe i'm just guessing.
are you going to do a podcast ever?
i woudl like to but lack the knowledge to do so.
maybe one of these days i'll sit down and figure it out.
i'll make that a goal for late 08 /early 09. :)
is it true you're playing with ben smith again?
yes it is. ben and i are doing some select shows together and i'm one blessed guy to get to play with him again. i miss him a lot on the road. anybody that has seen us play understands. we're pals.
who are the new guys?
well, it depends if you're to the east or west of russ-vegas.
east is probably krys keylor and west is probably stephen pierce.
sadly dale kellison moved to wisconsin or soem place with a lot of cheese.
he will be missed sadly.
as will zach carpenter for a while and brenden shultz.
those turkey's moved off and i miss them all.
what's your guiltiest guilty pleasure (musically of course!)
oh i have so very many.
i've recently been doing some jt to completely throw off the crowd.
i love abba, still josie and the pussycats.
lazlo bane, who had an album of guilty pleasures that i love.
and any old soft rock 70's station late at night while i'm driving home.
(don't go changing, to try and please me..)
:P

but yeah, usually quite a bit that most people have never heard.
then why don't you play them live?
thiswoudl be the obvious next question.
i just liek to work on them for a long time to see if they're
good enough to hang with the others.
otherwise they go back into archives to be dug up later and looked at again.
i'll make it a point tio play some new stuff at the upcoming shows!

there's plenty hard in this life. it prepares God's Children for the life to come.
which promises to be a whiole lot of fun. read revelations 21.
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then He said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
6He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

i was probably wiping sweat from my eyes. freakin' sweat.
do you like playing your shows?
good question, some shows i love love love.
some shows are harder due to lack of audience, lack of will power, lack of wanting to play that night. and it's not paticualr to the venue. what i mean to say is sometimes the best jobs still feel like a job. it's very rare but it does happen. my apologies if you've ever seen one of those shows. come again, i will not offend.

i've met all of them except the woodpecker, we were never formally introduced. the next big thing? cj's in altus is pretty fierce when it comes to food. arkansas is loaded with talent. maybe some young filmaker on the horizon, dare i say a musician.

paul simon is high on the list. sting, leonard cohen. wordsmiths mainly. people that weave their words well and then layer them with good music.

why don't you cover jeff buckley songs much?
jeff did a really good job at his own songs. if i can't make something better or at least interesting then i try not to mess with it too much. he covered a variety of interesting musicians, van morrison, nina simone, and johnny cash.

can i be on your record label?
send in your info and talk with mr mitchell.
how far would you get in the american idol competition?
i'd get to the line the first morning and see all those people who stayed there all night to be first. laugh and go get some ice cream.
it should be called "american idle".
2006, where is the tour headed?
in may it's taking a short break to have a daughter. after that, the world.
would you tour with a band you hated if the money was right?
i might for a while. i don't hate anybody so it's hard to imagine being with musicians i didn't enjoy something about.
when you dream, do you dream in b&w or color?
color. but the intermission and cartoon are usually b&w.
what are your goals?

what would you suggest to a vocalist who wants to start a group but can't find members?
keep trying. hit the local college up. put up fliers. everybody wants to be in a band when they get to college. also if you played another instrument you might make yourself a more valueable commidity.
would you let me buy you ice cream?
while i feel like this is a trick question, i'm still prone to answer yes.
what do you miss?
i miss lots of things. i miss stupid things. special things. ridiculous things. people, places. it's all part of it. was there more to this queston? was it supposed to be, "what do you misspell?"
what's worse, sex or violence?
i'm tempted to say violence. because sex was supposed to be something good and consecrated between a man and a woman.
does a man lose his virginity?
yeah, it's the same for both.
1.3.05
are you ever going to release a book of the stupid and funny things people ask you?

where is the worse place you've played?
there are some places down south that really don't deserve tobe called venues.
so in the new year what do you plan to do differently?
i think you'll see some changes in the show in 2006. i really enjoy playing music with other musicians and i think i'm going to spend more time doing that. as well as focus more on songwriting and releasing a couple of albums. nothing&everythingelse to begin with.
are you going to change your style?
my what? my hair style? my handwriting style? what are we talking about here? my musical style? probably not too much.
am i going to change my lack of style? now, that's a good question!

everybody wants to change something about themselves. for me it's probably going to be my attitude toward certain situations. i need to be more grateful and less self-centered. i must decrease...

what Christmas movies or tv shows is it important to watch this time of year?
i don't know about important, but as far as fun goes? i love the 1970's traditionals. charlie brown. a Christmas story, rudolph (claymation), the grinch(animation). a newer one would be love actually. love that movie. not for kids..
as americans do you think we have too much time on our hands?
usually yes. unless you ask someone who works three jobs to make ends meet and barely has time for her children. middle to upper class americans (i speak in monetary terms) usually have excess time they waste on xbox and frilly things.
we obviously have enough money. if we tithed as much to God as we spend on Christmas presents, there would be a lot more Bibles in people's hands.
12.19.05
did ebriano have a baby yet?

i've seen things that have disgusted me. thngs that have taken my breath away. things that have taken my appetite away. things that have changed the way i view society at large. but the last thing that took my breath away was...
which of your musician friends are the greatest sources of , laughs, wisdom, and worry? and why?

how do you find inspiration for your songs? do you feel that you have to constantly think of new songs to write?
inspiration runs amuck. i don't force myself to write songs, i just sit down when inspiration strikes and jot stuff down. the bulk of a song is usually done in 45 minutes, but it's the honing and crafting that takes me years to get through. then playing it live takes on a new dimension altogether. good question thank you.
was that not the best pre-party ever?
without question..
will you ever cover a song by randy travis?

what does "selling out" mean exactly in a music sense?
it means going mainstream. people love you dearer if you're their secret and only a handful of their peeps know about you. example?

probably "the great divorce" by c.s. lewis. when i read it i was away from home and that night i came home and read it aloud to my wife (who loved it too) because i was so excited about it. max lucado books are great also. "no wonder they called Him Savior" and "the Christmas story/an angel's story". fantastic reads. good question.
someone said once "you should choose your authors like you would choose your friends." that's a good rule of thumb for music too.
doesn't genius and ingenius mean the same thing?

have a similar meaning.
10.19.05

red sauce or pesto sauce?
half and half baby.
how do you mend a broken heart?
sorry it took so long for to me answer this. i could give you worldly advice which makes sense but it's still lacking. the truth is absence creates a void and we try to fill those voids with everything we can. that's how addictions are created.
be brave, fill up that void with something that won't be taken away. God's Love. spend time in His Word getting to know Him. and when you're ready, He'll probably send you the best partner you can imagine.
what inspires you most in your writing?
relationships. between everyone. all kinds. friendships, mother father, wife husband, boyfriend girlfriend, total strangers, Jesus, God. those inspire me.
do you dream?
i have a steady flow of dreams. thank you.
9.15.05
what do you think of the hurricane katrina aftermath?
i think it was a devastating hurricane. i feel very sorry for those without food, water, and a home. we should all try to give to these people in one form or another.
as far as blame goes, forget all that. just help people.
why don't u answer the questions in a timely manner?
why don't you spell out the word "you"?
slow down. you're probably one of those 'type a' people who have your day planned out months in advance. nerd.
are you going to play any hurricane relief gigs?
if someone would contact me with any info as to how to get in touch with a reputable source then i would definitely like to do that.
are regrets just regrets or lessons learned?
that depends on if you keep making the same mistakes.
you're selling sgnrobb thongs? your thoughts.
see, that was supposed to be a good joke. my friends know i've joked for a while about sgnrobb lingerie. well sure enough, it's become the hottest selling item on the merchandise page. i do think the boxers are cool.
what are your thoughts on american idol and shows of that nature?
i don't watch much television. one day it occured to me that i was watching what other people were doing with their lives and not what i was doing with mine.

if you had to put together a touring band to help you rock people's faces off, who would it be?
in real life? i would choose every musician i know and take them all on tour. not only would that be non-stop party, but i'm pretty sure it would rock.
if you had to eliminate one letter in the alphabet which one would it be? and why?
tough question. it's hard to only work with 26 letters as it is. it seems like we're missing a few. i suppose it'd have to be 'r'. then i'd just be "obb"

how do you feel about homosexuality?
i thought about this question for a long time before answering it. people are so ready to misread things sometimes. so let me answer it clearly and without room for misintepretation. in my life i've chosen to believe in what the Bible says, not part, but all. and the right wingers have made their stance politically known but i believe there are parts that they leave out in the discussion of this. my stance is that homosexuality is a choice, just like heterosexuality. like any other choice we make. i do believe it's against what God wants for us because, i think in part, it's not (re)productive.
the idea that's homosexuality is hereditary always makes me laugh. if that were so, there would be only one generation of gay people and then they would die out because they have no way to reproduce.
in this life i feel like we are all searching for a closeness and a one-on-one relationship with someone we can trust. and when what should be friendship turns sexual, society now says go with it. (not always, but definitely within that last ten years) the boundaries blur when we live in times that openly promote all kinds of sexual endeavors healthy and non-healthy.
i do feel that there have been a rash number of children around the age of 12-14 who have "come out of the closet". i find this to be ridiculous. i can assure them they have not only NOT "come out of the closet". they have yet to see the inside of the house.
however, statistically, the large numbers of childhood sexual abuse accounts and homosexuality being related are staggering.
when all is said and done if you live to your life expectancy of 70-80 years old these questions will doubtlessly seem redundant as our sexual drives decrease and what we are left with, in our spouses and relationships, is friendship, which hopefully was there all along.
in closing i can say i have dear friends who choose to be homosexual. like any choice we make, it's their's to make. it doesn't make me love them less or care for them less. i make choices everyday and i sin. do they love me less. i pray not.
our sexuality should not define us a human beings. sadly the world wants it to be this way. i would hope you choose to make your life about more than whom you choose to sleep with, male or female. or at the end of it, you might find your life was for nothing.
thank you for your question.

don't get married unless you are really, really, sure...
how did 'the pale sessions' evolve as an album, just a continuation of the others or did this come from some where different?
originally, i thought it'd be great to put out a more personal album (recording wise) with songs i hadn't played in a while and old demo recordings people had forgot about or never heard. but eventually it became the sequel to the 'everything trilogy' to link them together.
i think it does a good job of it.
are you pleased with how the polls turned out in november?
i'm glad a lot of people voted. that's encouraging. am i pleased to have bush in office? well, i'm pleased that he's a man who claims to follow the word of God as a guidleine for running our country. even if his actions at times seem to deviate from that. only God can know a man's heart and see whether or not he truly believes and submits to Christ.
in the end, he will have to answer to God just like you and i will.

can you write a song about jermain taylor?
if i knew who that was, then maybe.
on second thought , i just looked him up, he would have to be wrongfully accused of a crime and nicknamed "the hurricane".
why are you never in valleyfest?

swimming, definitely longpool.
what historical non musicians should have been?
this is a good question. 'the replacements' never got their dues in my mind. a long with 'dramarama' and 'nick cave and the bad seeds'. paul simon is mostly overlooked these days but still writing some of the best music around. i'll have to think about thisone some more.

divorce might be a little strong. how about firm tongue lashing.
and a demand for a re-order.
it is said that change is inevitable. what changes in your life are most difficult, welcome, or surprising?
change is furious at times for me. i tend to get set in my ways. but i've noticed once things change they have a way of balancing themselves out. then you just have to prepare for the next change. it's not usually bad. it's fear of the unknown that aggravates that.
good question.
will ibensky ever outgrow his youthful look?
not until he can grow facial hair.
6.20.05
why do you bash the church on your new album?
"bash the church" is a little harsh. i think maybe 'point to some serious shortcomings that we have as believers and followers of Christ' is more accurate. let me ask you this. should reform not begin in the place where it's taught? i don't believe Christians are above the law. rather more subject to it.
why didn't you send an email out for the beanery?
i ran out of time. sorry. but all available times and dates should be listed on sgnrobb.com. thanks.

2.26.05
where are you on the album right now?

did you know the word 'input' is mispelled at the top of this page?
i do now.
can you fall out of love?
of course, as a matter of fact, you shoud expect to. falling in love and out is equally easy. that's why it's important to remain focused on what's real and not what feeling you have in stomach at the time.
real life isn't made up of just feelings. and if acted out we would constantly run around trying to fill a void which is insatiable.
of course most people spend their time trying to do that anyway.

what does "me gusta en fuego" mean?
loosely translated by brian mitchell it means, "i'd rather be on fire."
does it bother you when girls are dancing up next to you while you're on the mic?
tricky question. i like everyone to have fun. and i love when people sing with me, usually. something tells me this is a reference to a recent show i played down south. in which case, "me gusta enfuego."
where is matt butzlaff these days?
ahh, the talented one of our group (for those that don't know matt played on the irresponsible years and with me in my first band sympathy) i saw matt over the holidays and he was with a beautiful young lady. he is working down south at a guitar center as a manager from what i'm told. still playing and making fantastic music.
if a guy takes someone's bags out of his vehicle and a cop doesn't see it, does he still commit a crime?
does he turn around and burst into laughter unable to hide his emotions based on how funny the situations is? if yes, then no, it's not a crime, just good hearted fun.
i heard you were coming to fort smith to j. michaels. where did you hear about it and when are you coming?
chek the tourdates for the details, but it'll be in april (22nd i think) and i heard about it from a lot of people. they say it's the pace to be in f.s.
is ben really getting married?
why is this so hard to believe?
ya schmuck, yes, he's really getting married.
1.30.05
do you believe in astronomy?
the study of the universe? sure, but i never took a class.
though, i bet you meant astrology. to which my answer is no.
when were you born?
yesterday.
you always thank God on your cd's and only capitalize His Name. why do you believe in a God?
i wondered when someone would ask me about this. thanks for writing in. just like everyone does, at some point, you're forced to face that this crappy world with all its deceits and lies and wrong-doings is not all there is to life. that there must be something more. as humans, do we not always crave more of what we receive? food, money, love, etc.. i believe we were built for something more.
so when i was 15 i started studying different religions seeing the truths behind them or the deceit (i still enjoy studying them). and while plenty of religions offer forms of intellectual insight and understanding, only Christianity offers a path to salvation based not on what one can do (religion), but on what One (Jesus) has already done.
the sins of the world (within my lifetime alone, are far too comprehensive to be left alone, to be ignored.) someone has to pay a price. evil has made itself manifest and because we (all of us) choose to separate ourselves from our Creator by choosing to be unholy (i.e. not playing by the rules He gave us). by choosing to follow paths that we know are no good for us, (i, being the chief explorer in these regions.) we have separated ourselves from our Father. but at the same time, i serve a Holy God whom, for some reason, Loves me. and i can't enter into His Presence, without Him, being the reason i'm there. without Him being the Sacrifice. it had to be His Choice. i could never earn it. not even with all the wisdom that the world's other religions could offer.
this is probably more of an explantion than you wanted. but this is the understanding God has shown me through reading His Bible. i would urge strongly anyone who had questions about life, love, God, religion, hate, intrepidation, providence, spiritual gifts and so on to read the Bible and find Wisdom. to find God Himself.
what is your favorite napoleon dynamite quote?
anything kip said was brilliant. napoleon who? the movie was all about kip. thanks to josh and zeb for giving me the heads up.
1.24.05
what's your new year's resolution?
to make one
why is it that sometimes we can't make it on our own?
in my opinion friend, it's simply because we aren't designed to be on our own. we aren't born alone. if we survive it as due to someone else's kindness and care. not our own.
the perfect example is in the Bible when God had made adam and they were hanging out in the garden. adam had all of nature at his command and God's ear for friendship and fellowship.
but he was still lonely.
knowing this God made for him a friend while he slept, a wife.
to me this illustrates not only why we need others at times, but that God recognizes these needs and acts on them.
thanks for writing in.
1.18.05
if a my fiance threatens me should i stay in a relationship with him?

8.9.04
what do you think about bush/kerry?
there's an old chinese proverb that states a very obvious fact about politics. and though i can't recall it word for word, in simple, it states that men who would seek a position of power are the ones most likely to abuse that kind of power. it would take a man who didn't want the office to have a candidate worth voting for. the perfect candidate for the job is not a man seeking status or position.
thusly, the right man will never be elected. because he's not running. chances are he cooked your food, washed your car or smiled at you walking down the street. and chances are he is quite content with his life, regardless the circumstances.
having said that and fully believeing it. we still are not allowed as americans citizens the right to blow off the elections. therefore i would say take whatever it is that you serve, God, money, sex, drugs, etc.. and find the candidate whose beliefs align closest with yours. (this is pretty much how people find churches too.) and vote for them.
as for me and my house...
do you have a nose job?
this is the funniest question i've ever received. the answer is no.
do you believe in life after death?
yes.
why does God let good people die?
God let's everybody die. it's a doorway through which we all pass.
no exceptions. ask any 120 year old person if you think i'm wrong.

do you prefer this band to your old band, "sympathy"?
that's funny someone still remembers us, sympathy, i mean. who is this, my sister? i loved them. but this is definetely tighter these days.
whatever happened to ben?
ben is doing great. he has a fiance now which is time consuming as well as a job and a band (abel). we had dinner the other day and he's doing good. oh wait, do you mean ben smith? he is a goat-herder in wyoming now. he has long hair and hentai tattoo's covering most of his unshaven body.

what kind of instrumentation will you have on the next album?
hard to say, but i like the arrangements i've been playing with lately.
that should give you a hint.
what kind of computer do you have?
i'm not really sure. 'compaq' something.
is the song "ashes for... " going to be on your next cd?
i had forgotton about that song. i'm glad you reminded me. i'm not sure what's going to be on the next cd. i just recently found the players i want to use. i remember one time in hot springs i played that with ben and jason and i wished so dearly we had been recording it. you can't beat some live performances. even in a studio.
murmurs.. is it a song about conviction?
it's a song about many things. maybe the conviction of the transience of life. how it slips away a great deal faster than we realize.
are there any musical groups or musicians that you would suggest listening to?
i don't listen to much new music. i'm sorry i can't help you there.
when was your first kiss?
when i was 15.
what would you suggest being included on a promo package for a band?
for the most professional looking one you can have, go all out.
8x10 glossy pic of the band. 4 song quality demo, short but thorough bio about the band. and some news press clippings and stickers, if available. all in a professional holder. good question.
so seriously, the next album?
soon, within 6 mo. my apologies for making you wait.
why do fools fall in love?
everybody plays the fool. - a.neville
a band named exodus give a big what up to einstein's in el dorado.
what advice could you offer a highly experienced musician putting together a non-violent, positive-messaged, heavy metal band?
for an experienced musician there's probably a lot you already know but here are some basics.
1. find people you really enjoying hanging out with. find friends.
2. make sure they like each other as well.
3. have people who all have the same goal. if your music is positive make sure you have positive people working with you.
4. let go of any ego or pride, it will only tear the band apart.
5. practice until your tight.
6. put together a good promo package
7. go out and viciously seek gigs everywhere..
and pray to God for help.

what is the 8th wonder of the world?
women.
how do you feel about the turkish govt excavating the possible site of noah's ark?
(only one person would ask me this)
i think's it's great. regardless of their findings. i think it's great to encourage people to read the real story.
however some people believe it might be on mt. ararat. so keep that in mind...
have you ever wondered what your life would be like if you were a girl?
yes. it would suck.
everything matters? what happened to everything is nothing?
a good and firm question. everything is nothing.. save God. was the entire name of the album. the sister album is coming soon, entitled nothing and everything else. the pale sessions v1: everything matters is a surprised unplanned album full of new versions of old songs, spoken word dialogues and different arrangements (violin, cello, saxaphone, etc. ). a very fun album being recorded right now.
everything matters because everything we do and have done affects what is and will be.
you've done a few cover songs in your time. which artist would you like to see cover one of your songs?
hmm. ben smith. prince. vanilla ice. dramarama, queen.
if you were my boyfriend and i said i was going to kill myself would you leave me or try to help me?
are you killing yourself because i'm your boyfriend? if the answer's yes, it'd be best if i left. if not then i would try to help. because obviously i've been a pretty lousy boyfriend if you're thinking of offing yourself. by the way, KRP RECORDS says you win the weird question of the week award.
how do you emote such passion when performing a song you've sang a 1000 times before?
songs are like vivid memories. when i play them i see the things that inspired them and what has come about since then.
it's like reminiscing. and i don't play each song every night. if i start to wear out a song (and i have i.e. romance is dead. after we played it at every show for 3 years straight) then i change it up tp make it more challenging to play or interesting to listen to.
good question.
are you going to take time off when your baby is born? will you continue to play music?
yes, i plan to take off most of july anticipating his arrival. and then climb slowly back on track for the latter part of summer. we're very excited, thank you!
which is the deadliest of the 7 sins?
